Perseverance for Screenwriters. If you don't have it, build it. But if you have it, use it.

I have been willing to write this post several weeks ago but somehow I couldn't find the time since we all live in our busy uproar. But here I am, ready to spread my thoughts on the subject of perseverance in the screenwriting with you.

One of the most appealing challenges a screenwriter has to deal with is the perseverance. By perseverance I mean something we all need in almost all areas of life but when it comes to screenwriting, we particularly need to pay more attention to how we face up difficulties. Why I define perseverance as the stone for the baseline of any good script? Because without it, you won't even finish what you have started. The craft of screenwriters is not easy and obviously, not all those who start this journey will continue forward. That's normal, that's life.

Going straight to the point, you don't need to be patient when it comes to writing, you need to build your confidence on your perseverance. Even if you are a starting screenwriter, and your style is not as good as you wished it would be, go on, be perseverant. Don't get mislead by wishful thinking that some people have a special gift for writing, more specifically, for screenwriting. What I believe is that there are people who are more ready when the opportunity presents itself and they go for it despite the challenges.

Many people will say, try it, try it harder, but I think that is the shortcut to failure. Actually, there is a line from a film that resonates in my mind and says "Don't try to do the thing. You will not succeed. Do it." Well,  I give you room for your own opinion. Here is the thing, set a concrete goal, then, schedule it on a daily basis and do it. If you have to write per week let's say 7 pages, then make sure you write each day that 1 page, no matter if you have to wake up half an hour earlier or go to bed later. Stick to your plan and once you have mastered it, then make it bigger. Be perseverant by distancing yourself from outer demands and influences (during the time of writing). That is the path towards the finishing of your first, second or Star Wars script by employing the skills of perseverance and doing what you have to do because you know well the why.

As I posted on the Instagram (@thescreenwriters):
"Not all those who write are screenwriters. Screenwriting is for those who can stand whatever it takes to stand up".
That is the result of a huge dose of perseverance. If you don't have it, build it. But if you have it, use it.
